There are 2 topics that are most “feared" by quilters that come into our shop - creating without a pattern and quilting your quilt.

Do you have an idea for a quilt or special project, but don’t know where to start?  Do you have a stack of unfinished quilt tops you are afraid to begin?

Our hope is that you enjoy your sewing time, that we inspire you to try new things, teach you new techniques and help you along the way.

This is your hobby, it’s supposed to be fun and we’d like to help.

So, we address these issues 4 ways in our shop & online:

  1. Quilting your project in sections, on your sewing machine—Quilt As You Go (QAYG). This also is a great method for creating your own projects.
  2. Our Create As You Go (CAYG) quilt creation classes.  Most CAYG quilts can also be quilted in sections.
  3. Classes on Free Motion, Improv and Straight Line Quilting
  4. Quilting finished projects on an embroidery machine.

Here's a gallery of fearless quilts!

This is a variation on the "Stitcher's Garden" pattern.  We quilted it as we made the blocks.

WE'LL HELP YOU THROUGH THE FEAR OF QUILTING AND INSPIRE YOU TO CREATE ALONG THE WAY

Stop making quilt tops and make quilts.  With this method when your quilt top is done, so is the quilting.  Like "they" say, it isn't a quilt until it's quilted.

Another joy of creating your own fearless quilt is that you can change your mind at any time!

Think you’re going to make a quilt and then decide it would be a great wall hanging—no problem.  Think you’re going to make a table runner and love it so you want to turn it into a quilt-no problem.  You can truly do anything you want.  You can even just build it a block at a time as you move along.

Combine most any technique or quilting style - Be Fearless!

Large print fabrics, stripes, dots, printed panels...

Special fabrics –things you’ve found over the years (kimono silk from my niece is in mine)

    T-shirts

    Photo transfers to fabric

“Leftovers”-blocks, embroideries or fabrics from previous quilts or projects.

Fabric markers—for words if you don’t have an embroidery machine

Memory items including fabric from clothing, stitchery, lace, ribbon or linens (obviously you need to consider if you’re making a wall hanging or quilt—washing issues may be a problem depending on the products used)

Remember, it's quilted as you go so when it's done it's you're done!

    Quilt as you go

QAYG means Quilt As You Go.  You can create a quilt one block at a time.  Top, batting & backing is done all at one time on each block, rather than making your entire quilt top, then layering and quilting it.  Check out these ideas for creating your own unique quilt!  You can even use this method to make T-Shirt quilts!    This video is the next step in our series of Quilt As You Go videos.  The first was called Learn to Quilt As You Go Tutorial.
