Studio Y Extra – Playing with Purses

Fancy trying something new? Playing with Purses is a creative, technique-based video class designed to help you explore purse and bag making in a relaxed, playful way — at your own pace.

This is not a single pattern project. Instead, it’s a collection of recorded sessions that teach the foundations of bag making, so you can apply what you learn to any purse or bag pattern — or even design your own.

The What a Deal Purse cards are strongly recommended as a starting point, but not required.

What you’ll learn

This on-demand video series covers a wide range of bag-making techniques, including:

• Design, shape, and size considerations
• Pockets (interior and exterior)
• Closures: flaps, zippers, snaps, and more
• Straps and hardware
• Multiple construction techniques

Along the way, you’ll pick up demos, hints, tips, and practical guidance you can reuse again and again.

Who is this for?

• Beginners curious about purse and bag making
• Sewists who’ve dabbled and want to build confidence
• Experienced “bagineers” looking to refresh techniques
• Creative sewists who enjoy experimenting, sharing ideas, and learning together

If you like variety, creativity, and skill-building over rigid instructions — this is for you.

You may finish a bag… or two… or simply build skills and confidence. That’s okay!

You’ll see examples at all levels and learn how to build features step by step. By the end of your “Bagineer” experience, there will be a bag — and a whole lot more knowledge to take forward.
