How many ways can you use fabric?
Share
I always ask people what their intended project is when they buy fabric and although not
everyone has a plan in mind when they fall in love with beautiful fabric, here’s some of the
ways your sewist friends use their fabric aside from quilts:
1. Home décor:
Pillows
Table runners
Placemats & napkins
Mug rugs
Valances/curtains
Shower curtains (buy the clear liner and do button holes at the top of fabric to
put on the outside of the clear liner
Dresser scarves
Display --- some of us organize our stash by color and display it on shelves or in
glass cases!
2. Pet attire
Cat, dog, and goat collars
Costumes for your pets ---Halloween is coming up, and I DO sew for my donkeys!
3. Walls in your house
Wall hanging quilted “pictures”
Yes, you can decoupage fabric on your walls; Elayne has given permission for us
to decorate the bathroom after Christmas, so stay tuned.
Banners to hang above your lovely quilts with matching fabric
4. Personal items
Purses, bags (think potato), and totes
Duffle bags for travel
Zippy pouches for little essentials
Clothing
Costumes
5. Utilitarian items
Towels
Aprons
Pillowcases
Sewing machine covers
Cushion covers
Car and boat seat covers
Toaster and other appliance covers
Key fobs
Bookmarks
6. Children’s Items
Dolls
Doll clothes
Fabric books
Play mats
Stuffed animals
7. Comfort and healing
Rachel’s heart pillows
Lap robes for veterans and others who could use the warmth and caring
I’m sure this list is not exhaustive of the creativity that comes from our customers, but check off the ways you use fabric and try something you haven’t done before from this list!
